This Grand Cru from Burgundy has medium body, moderate tannins, and a fresh acidity that make it a versatile and elegant companion. The ripe cherry fruit, forest floor, and oriental spices call for dishes with earthy, light to medium-bodied tones rather than the very powerful. The soft tannins cut nicely through moderately fatty proteins, while the acidity keeps the dish fresh, and as a Pinot Noir it is especially friendly toward cheese. Think poultry, pork, and aged cheeses, where the wine and the food can meet each other as equal partners.

About the wine

The Chapelle-Chambertin plot is located at the foot of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. The domain's parcel and amounts to 0.52 ha.

The wine is matured in oak barrels (80% new barrels) from the Allier and Nivernais regions with a medium roast. The result is a restrained and harmonious taste.

The scent almost radiates with ripe cherries, woody vanilla and flowers.

Flavors of seductive red berry fruit, forest floor and oriental spices. A beautiful balance between tannins and acidity, which leads the wine into a long, delicious finish.

Finally, let it rest on the wine shelf for a few years. The wine is great now, but the potential is even greater.

Inside Burgundy
Dense purple, quite ripe, plenty of energy though as well. A dark purple sort of fruit, 30% whole bunch vinification keeps the wine lively while the 80% new wood currently marks it a bit, but leaves no aggressive wood tannins.

Vinous
The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has an expressive bouquet with pure wild strawberry, red cherry and bergamot scents, quite mineral-driven, touches of Earl Grey in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite saline and poised with a pretty, understated finish.
