This Pinot Noir is full-bodied and powerful in its youth, but built to mature into a velvety wine with notes of truffles and violets and a long, generous aftertaste. Its moderate, silky tannin and the fresh Burgundian acidity handle both animal richness and juicy jus, so you can pair it with poultry, veal and lighter game without the astringency taking over. The earthy truffle and mushroom tones mirror dishes with mushrooms and ripe cheeses, while the wine's length and finesse call for preparations of corresponding depth. Keep the spicing understated, so the wine's elegance has room to shine.

About the wine
Acquired in 1919 by Gaston Grivot. The average age of the vines is 40 years. Low yields, but sublime quality.
The famous Dr. Morelot said, "Clos de Vougeot, Romanée, Chambertin, and some others are the best wines in Côte d'Or and perhaps the best in France."
Grivot's Clos de Vougeot is a full-bodied, powerful wine, which is sometimes a bit raw. It is robust when young and needs time to mature and develop finesse and elegance. It usually requires about 10 years to open up. Once matured, it is a generous, velvety wine, full of truffles and scents of violets.

The 2022 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a refined and harmonious bouquet with red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and light oyster shell notes, ameliorating all the time in the glass.

Rich, fleshy, dark-cherry notes on the palate. Crisp acidity. Structured, smooth and complex. A very classy Clos de Vougeot which will age beautifully.

Warm, lush, and tannic, this wine shows an intensely ripe, plummy fruit aroma with notes of smoke and spice and impressive depth and length. It is the best Clos Vougeot I can recall having from this domaine.

Here a more restrained nose somewhat grudgingly offers up an array of pretty red berry scents that are trimmed in notes of earth, wood and a suggestion of smoked game.
