This full-bodied and powerful Pinot Noir has a velvety core of truffle and violets, moderate tannins and fresh acidity, and it therefore thrives with dishes where tender texture and earthy tones are given room. About the wine
Acquired in 1919 by Gaston Grivot. The average age of the vines is 40 years. Low yields, but sublime quality. Grivot's Clos de Vougeot is a full-bodied, powerful wine, which is sometimes a bit raw. It is robust when young and needs time to mature and develop finesse and elegance. It usually requires about 10 years to open up. Once matured, it is a generous, velvety wine, full of truffles and scents of violets.

The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a very succinct bouquet. It's one of the cuvées from Grivot with what feels like darker fruit than others. This is beautifully defined, with hints of sea cave/oyster shell and a dash of black pepper that manifests with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and velvety smooth, with pliant tannins, moderate depth and orange rind, blood oranges and a hint of cardamom toward the finish. This is quite a complex Clos de Vougeot that should age with style.

The Grivot imprint is clear here as this is a "pretty" Clos Vougeot. Tangy red berries sing on the nose, unusually perky and bright in this vintage.
