This Brunello Riserva is powerful and concentrated with ripe, well-developed tannins, good volume and a fresh acidity that lifts it all. The tannins need richness and protein, so they have something to bind to, while the long aging in French barrels gives spicy depth that matches braised and slow-cooked dishes. The fresh acidity cuts through fat and stock, so dishes with rich sauce or game gain both balance and finesse. Go for robust preparations like roasting and braising, which meet the wine's weight without being drowned out.

About the wine

Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 is a textbook example of how sangiovese can express both power and elegance in the same glass.

The wine comes from the vineyards at Sant’Angelo in Colle, where the soil is rich in clay and has low natural fertility – a terroir that gives grapes with intensity and structure. The vines stand at about 250 meters altitude, where cool nights in September helped the grapes to perfect ripeness.

On the nose, one is met with a deep ruby red color and a bouquet where the classic notes of sangiovese are accompanied by fine spices from 32 months of aging in French Allier barrels.

The taste is concentrated and powerful with ripe tannins that are beautifully integrated with the wine's volume and acidity. The aftertaste is long, clean, and mineral, characterized by harmony and elegance – a wine that shows why 2019 is considered a great vintage in Montalcino.

Vinification takes place with 20 days of fermentation in steel tanks, before the wine is aged in small barrels, bottled, and subsequently matures in a temperature-controlled cellar.

It is a wine that will develop beautifully for many years to come.

Only 1,100 bottles and 30 magnums of this Riserva have been produced.

Very ripe on the nose it shows notes of sour cherries, dehydrated plums, mixed tea leaves, sandalwood, patchouli and coriander. Full body, very ripe tannins and a warm and enveloping finish. Drink now.
