This Sangiovese is described as elegant and not overpowering, with twelve months in barrique and tonneaux, so it has a medium body, fresh acidity and supple, ripe tannins. That acidity makes it a natural partner for tomato-based dishes and rich meat dishes, where the tannins wrap around the protein and freshen up the richness. Stick to medium-intensity dishes, so the wine's finesse isn't steamrolled, and lean into Tuscan cuisine, where the grape and the food have developed together.

About the wine

Fantastic single field wine from the very large 2015 vintage.

The wine is not, in the same way as Gran Selezione, a big and full-bodied wine.

This one is more elegant, and definitely not violent. Very delicate and very durable.

12 months in barrique and tonneaux (225 liters and 500 liters).

The wine is Sangiovese. However, it is an old field and on this field there are quite a few canaiolo and colorino, old traditional Chianti grapes.

The wine could easily be called Chianti Classico DOCG, but it has always been called Gratius IGT, and it will continue to be so.

The field is old, approx. 70 years, and the benefit is approx. 20 hl/ha.

Only 3,000 bottles have been produced.

Certified biodynamic.

Critic reviews

Bright ruby with a fine garnet edge. Clear and precise nose, opens with notes of blackberry and mulberry, mixed with appealing balsamic notes. Dense, gripping tannin, embedded in a lot of round texture, builds up for a long time, on the finish ripe fruits and clove.
