This Brunello has a bright, springy fruit of cherry and cranberry, fine well-integrated tannins and a balanced acidity that makes it more elegant than heavy. That is why it thrives best with dishes that have a certain richness and substance without being overpowering, so the tannins can settle softly around the protein while the acidity keeps the whole thing fresh. Feel free to choose tender meat prepared by roasting or braising, and let the dish's intensity meet the wine's without drowning out the fine fruit. Mushrooms and aged cheese play up to the discreetly spiced and earthy character.

About the wine

From the house's vineyards in Ragnaie, Petroso, Loreto, Fornace, and Cava.

The 2020 vintage was marked by warmth, but at Le Ragnaie, the wines have retained their lightness and vibrancy without the fruit becoming heavy.

The aroma and taste revolve around light cherry fruit, cranberries, and fine floral notes with a discreet spicy touch of pink pepper. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, and the whole is complex without being strenuous. The finish is soft and pleasant – more immediate than the 2019 vintage, but still with enough structure for several years of development.

The wine is fermented with natural yeast in concrete and has had a long maceration before aging 36 months in large Slavonian botti. It is a Brunello that already provides great drinking pleasure and can easily be stored for a good handful of years to come.

This is a model of purity, soft and round yet focused with ripe wild berry fruits that saturate as saline minerals collect toward the close.

The palate is medium-bodied and snappy with ripe acidity, refined tannins, and a great mouthwatering finish revealing notes of ripe orange citrus and saline.

What stands out is the focus and energy of the bouquet with delicate berry and floral notes and even a touch of fresh mint. It boasts a polished texture.

The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Fornace is a spectacular way to close out the wines of 2020 from Le Ragnaie. Aromatic of grenadine, sweet balsamic herbs, leather, and licorice candies, the palate really sets itself apart, with fine tannins, mouthwatering, salted, ripe orange citrus, iron-rich earth, and a clean, stony, driving finish.
