This Brunello has a medium to full body, precise sandy tannins and a fresh, almost salty acidity with notes of pickled cherries, tobacco, licorice and truffle. The firm tannins need fat and protein to grip onto, so choose dark meat with juice and structure, where the tannins are softened and the wine gains body. The fresh acidity and the earthy notes at the same time make it perfect for mushroom dishes and aged cheese, where you can play on similarity with the wine's own truffle and spice notes. Serve it at a slightly warmer temperature, so the tannins appear their softest.

About the wine

From the estate's one hectare on the famous Montosoli hill just north of Montalcino town. A vineyard known for delivering Sangiovese with a particularly mineral – almost salty – character, which complements the grape's tart cherry fruit superbly. The parcel is located at about 300 meters altitude with eastern exposure, contributing to the wine's vibrancy and finesse.

The wine is intense and nuanced with preserved cherries, dried plum, tobacco, and licorice, supplemented by earthy notes, truffle, orange peel, and a hint of tar. The tannins are sandy and precise, and the whole balances grandeur and elegance convincingly.

It is a Brunello with both depth and structure for long aging, but also with a clarity and energy that already shows why Montosoli is considered among Montalcino's very best vineyards.

The vinification follows the estate's uncompromising line with natural yeast, fermentation in concrete, and long maceration before the wine ages 36 months in large Slavonian botti.

Critic reviews

94Antonio Galloni
Vinous
The 2020 maintains fantastic freshness, finishing long with a resonance of licorice and tart blackberry that lingers on.
97Robert Parker
The Wine Advocate
These conditions result in extremely focused aromatic characteristics of wet stone, blue flower, and blood orange. That note of violet or lavender is exceptional.
95Decanter
Impossibly pretty, it emerges with violet, thyme blossom, elusive hints of truffle, and an undeniable stony mineral note.
