This Brunello has firm but finely polished tannin, bright red fruit and a striking freshness, and that makes it a classic companion to dishes with both richness and structure. The tannins are softened by fat and protein in tender beef and lamb, while the natural acidity cuts through the fatty elements and keeps the palate fresh. With the aging in large botti rather than pronounced oak, you get an elegant wine that matches full-bodied, long-cooked dishes and mature cheeses without drowning them out. Choose robust preparations such as braising and grilling, so the wine's energy and body get an equal partner.

About the wine

Vecchie Vigne comes from the estate's oldest parcel, located right by the farm at about 600 meters altitude. The vineyard was planted in the 1960s and consists of old Sangiovese vines, which yield low outputs and wines with marked structure and natural concentration.

The expression is characterized by a remarkable freshness combined with depth and vibrancy. The red fruit stands clear and precise, flanked by floral and lightly spiced nuances, and the tannins are firm yet finely polished. It is a Brunello where elegance and energy go hand in hand, and where the altitude and old vines clearly leave their mark.

The wine is vinified in concrete with natural yeast and has aged 36 months in large Slavonian botti, which supports terroir and freshness rather than oak influence. The production is very limited with only 3,761 bottles, and the result is a Brunello with both great aging potential and classic Le Ragnaie nerve.

The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Ragnaie V.V. is a cut above the rest in this vintage and really over-delivers, bringing all the best elements of this vintage into rich contrast. Revealing ripe aromatics of kirsch, fresh leather, sweet tobacco, blood orange, and anise, the palate is saturated and pure, with incredible lift while also having notable depth.

The Wine Advocate
This is an outstanding wine from Le Ragnaie. Showing unescapable mineral definition, the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. sees fruit sourced from the estate's oldest vines, which were planted in 1968 on sandstone soils (with quartz inclusions) at 600 meters above sea level. The bouquet is bright and fragrant, but the wine also has a salty or harder edge that gives it good runway to age and evolve.
