This Brunello has firm but finely polished tannins, a fresh acidity and a clear red fruit with floral and lightly spiced notes. The firm tannins need animal fat and protein to play off against, while the fresh nerve keeps heavy, braised dishes in balance. Choose classic Tuscan dishes and hearty, but not overpowering food, so the wine's elegance and energy have room to unfold.

About the wine

Vecchie Vigne is from the estate's oldest parcel, located right by the farm at around 600 meters altitude. The vineyard was planted in the 1960s and consists of old Sangiovese vines, which yield low outputs and wines with marked structure and natural concentration.

The expression is characterized by a remarkable freshness combined with depth and vibrancy. The red fruit stands clear and precise, flanked by floral and lightly spiced nuances, and the tannins are firm yet finely polished. It is a Brunello where elegance and energy go hand in hand, and where the altitude and old vines clearly leave their mark.

The wine is vinified in concrete with natural yeast and has aged for 36 months in large Slavonian botti, which supports the terroir and freshness rather than oak influence. The production is very limited with only 3,761 bottles, and the result is a Brunello with both great aging potential and classic Le Ragnaie character.

The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Ragnaie V.V. is a cut above the rest in this vintage and really over-delivers, bringing all the best elements of this vintage into rich contrast. Revealing ripe aromatics of kirsch, fresh leather, sweet tobacco, blood orange, and anise, the palate is saturated and pure, with incredible lift while also having notable depth.

The Wine Advocate
This is an outstanding wine from Le Ragnaie. Showing unescapable mineral definition, the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. sees fruit sourced from the estate's oldest vines, which were planted in 1968 on sandstone soils (with quartz inclusions) at 600 meters above sea level. The bouquet is bright and fragrant, but the wine also has a salty or harder edge that gives it good runway to age and evolve.
