This Rosso di Montalcino has a broad and smooth mouthfeel, ripe fruit of cherry and strawberry, fine acidity and a refined, moderate tannin from the long barrel aging. That makes it a classic companion to good meat and game, where the tannins get some fat and protein to play against and become softer. The acidity and the wild herbs keep the dishes fresh at the same time, while the wine's elegant structure approaches its big brother's format without drowning out the food. Give it a little air, and serve it at 17-18 degrees, so the tannins feel their most velvety soft.

About the wine

Sogni e Follia Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2021 is a wine that in many ways raises the bar for what one can expect from a Rosso. It is made from 100% Sangiovese from vineyards with deep alluvial soil, rich in silt and sand, mixed with gravel and the limestone rock alberese – a terroir that gives grapes with both structure and freshness.

The aroma is intense and complex with ripe cherries, strawberries, and violets, culminating in hints of wild herbs.

The taste is truly structured and refined, with a broad and smooth mouthfeel, fine acidity, and a persistent, elegant aftertaste.

This is a Rosso di Montalcino that approaches the character of its big brother, Brunello!

Drink it now, with a little air – or store it for 3-5 years, where it will develop further complexity.

The wine is fermented and macerated for 20 days in large open oak barrels, allowing for a gentle extraction of color and tannin. Subsequently, it is aged for a full 24 months in large Slavonian barrels and then an additional eight months in cement, where it is allowed to find its balance without the influence of wood.
