Collection: Massolino

The story of the Massolino family and their wine begins in Serralunga d'Alba as early as 1896, when Giovanni Massolino founded the winery. Giovanni was an enterprising, persistent, and creative man, and it was, for example, he who brought electricity to the village.

The first wine cellar was built by Giuseppe, the son of the founder Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, expanded his estate with the best lands, and in 1934 he was one of the founders of the consortium for Barolo and Barbaresco.

Giuseppe had six children. Three of them, Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, followed in their father's footsteps and expanded the estate by purchasing Massolino's best vineyards: Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda, the latter being the most famous. All three vineyards are located in Serralunga, and the Parussi vineyard in Castiglione Falletto was added later.

It is these four vineyards that provide the grapes for Massolino's four single-vineyard Barolos, all made in the traditional way in large oak barrels.

In the year 2022, Massolino's first Barbaresco vintage is released. The family has always dreamed of producing this lovely delicate wine from the area. The family searched for a long time, and they wanted the vineyards in Neive, as they believe this is where the desired expression is achieved. After a long search, they found 4 hectares spread across the crus Albesani, Starderi, and Serraboella. 10,000 bottles of Barbaresco DOCG were produced, which hit the market on March 1, 2022, and in September 2022, 4,000 bottles of Barbaresco Albesani DOCG 2019 will be released.

For this purpose, Massolino has built a small fine cellar in Alba. This was necessary as Italian wine laws do not allow the bottling of Barbaresco in Serralunga.
