This alpine pinot nero is light and precise with fresh acidity, a soft structure and moderate tannins, so it works best with medium-weight dishes rather than heavy, powerful fare. The fresh acidity cuts nicely through a little richness and lifts umami, which is why mushroom dishes, dishes with truffle and a well-aged risotto suit it. The soft tannin and red fruit make it friendly toward both light meat and oily fish, while the nervy freshness also stands up to firmer cheeses like Ossau-Iraty and Tomme de Savoie.

About the wine

Elegant mountain pinot nero with freshness, nerve, and finesse.

A fine example of how the pinot noir grape presents itself in the alpine heights of Valle d’Aosta. The grapes come from La Tour d’Aymavilles, where the vineyards are situated at about 650 meters altitude on steep, south-facing slopes. The soil is loose, sandy, and characterized by moraine deposits, while the alpine climate with cool summers, cold winters, and large temperature differences between day and night gives the wine its characteristic freshness and aromatic intensity.

In the glass, the wine is clear ruby red with cherry tones. The aroma is fresh and elegant with blackberries and cherries, fine floral notes of violet, and a light balsamic touch. The taste is juicy, pure, and immediate with fresh acidity, soft structure, and a lightly spicy character. The finish is persistent and elegant.

A truly versatile pinot nero that pairs beautifully with both light and red meats, pasta dishes, and dishes with mushrooms and umami. It is also very good with sushi and fatty fish - and in the summer, it can be advantageously served slightly chilled - preferably in large Burgundy glasses.

The grapes are hand-harvested around mid-October. After destemming the cooled grapes, two days of cold maceration with whole berries follow. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks at 22 °C for eight days with daily pigeage (where the grape skins that collect at the top of the tank are pressed down into the must) and then aged for six months in steel. After bottling, it undergoes an additional three months of bottle aging before release.

The result is a light, precise, and elegant mountain pinot nero, where the pure fruit and alpine freshness are allowed to stand out completely.
