An exceptional wine from the northern side of Etna, made with 100% Chardonnay. While Etna is typically associated with Carricante, Andrea Franchetti has chosen instead to work with Chardonnay, inspired by the great white wines of Burgundy.
The grapes grow in the high-lying contrada Guardiola, between 850 and 1,000 meters in altitude, on steep terraces in loose, powdery volcanic soil rich in minerals. The extreme terroir—with high light intensity, significant temperature fluctuations, and distinct volcanic characteristics—creates a wine with rare complexity and aging potential.
In the glass, 2023 presents itself as a rich and structured white wine, where intensity and freshness go hand in hand. The aroma opens with citrus, white flowers, and flinty notes, and the flavor is both precise and generous, with a salty minerality, ripe fruit, and a long finish.
The harvest is carried out manually and selectively over several weeks—bunches are tasted and harvested individually only when they are optimally ripe. After vinification, the wine is aged in the bottle for two years on the estate before release, allowing it time to settle and reveal its full potential.
Passopisciaro Bianco is a wine for connoisseurs and collectors who seek a distinctive and ambitious white wine from Etna—with clear references to both the power of the volcano and the elegance of Burgundy.
