This young vintage port has retained some of the grapes' natural sweetness, and it meets a fresh acidity and fine, outstanding tannins with plenty of dark berries, cherries and a hint of menthol. The sweetness and the high alcohol content make it a classic partner for rich desserts and for cheese, where the salty contrast plays off against the fruit. If you want to go to the meat side, then choose fatty and slightly sweet dishes, where the tannins are softened by the richness, while the fruit keeps the dish fresh. Think of blue cheese, dark chocolate and dried fruit and nuts as the most faithful companions.

About the wine

The 2013-14 wine production year was characterized by a dry winter followed by a warm spring. Despite the fact that the weather was very changeable, the summer was generally cool, which allowed a balanced ripening of the grapes.

The grapes come from 40-year-old vines on two of Quinta's parcels of land, which face north-east and lie 150 meters above sea level. After manual harvest in boxes of 25 kg. the grapes were kept in the fridge for 12 hours. Vinification was done by foot stomping in the vineyard.

The color is classic ruby red. In the nose, the port presents aromas of cherry and blueberry, some eucalyptus and menthol candies. In the mouth it is persistent, fresh, with beautiful red berries well integrated with excellent tannins.
