Le Cupole is a classic Bordeaux blend with ripe, generous fruit, silky-smooth tannins and a balanced freshness, and that makes it an obvious partner for hearty meat and cheese dishes. The soft, ripe tannins settle down against the fat and protein in grilled or braised meat, while the wine's juicy acidity cuts through the richness and keeps the palate fresh. Feel free to choose robust preparations like grilling and braising that match the wine's weight, and let the spicy layers of licorice, cedar and graphite play up against aged cheeses.

About the wine

Classic Bordeaux blend from Andrea Franchetti.

Le Cupole is the entry ticket to the iconic Tenuta di Trinoro universe in southern Tuscany – but the word "entry" should be taken with a grain of salt. This is a wine that, in both intensity and complexity, stands strong on its own and can compete with much more expensive bottles.

The wine is composed of four classic Bordeaux grapes: merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. For the 2022 vintage, the distribution was 57% merlot, 26% cabernet franc, 11% cabernet sauvignon, and 6% petit verdot – a harmonious blend that ensures both structure and charm.

2022 was a dry and demanding year, where the vines had to use their energy wisely. The summer was hot and dry, but in September there were sudden and heavy rain showers, which gave the grapes a final, decisive ripening. The result is a wine with both ripe fruit and a surprising freshness.

The aroma offers blackcurrant, dark cherries, and plums with spicy layers of licorice, cedar, and graphite.

The taste is dense and generous, with silky tannins and a juicy, long finish.

Le Cupole 2022 is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but can easily be stored in the cellar for 5-8 years. It works excellently with braised dishes with lamb or game, grilled beef, or aged cheeses – or simply as a meditation wine for evenings that deserve something special.

The grapes come from vineyards in Val d’Orcia with vines over 30 years old, located at 450-600 meters altitude, where the soil consists of limestone, gravel, and sandstone – a terroir that provides both depth and nerve. Harvesting is done manually and in small parcels, which are vinified separately.

Fermentation takes place in steel tanks over 10-15 days, after which the wine ages 8 months in used barriques and then 12 months in cement tanks.

An excellent wine for the price!

Displaying a youthful magenta/ruby color, the 2022 Le Cupole is a blend of 57% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the remainder Petit Verdot. It was aged for eight months in barriques, followed by an additional 12 months in concrete tanks before bottling. Full-bodied, it offers plush tannins, ripe acidity, and a savory finish.

Deep, healthy crimson. Lovely freshness and integration of the ingredients on the nose, zesty mid palate and some tannin still evident on the finish. Lighter-bodied than Trinoro 2021 released at the same time, with a little spiciness.

A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the Tenuta di Trinoro 2022 Le Cupole remains one of Italy's greatest value buys, especially for fans of concentrated, sun-drenched Tuscan reds.

The 2022 Le Cupole is a bomb. Ample, dense and super-expressive, the 2022 stains the palate with an exotic mélange of black cherry, espresso, licorice, mocha and dried flowers. This opulent, full-throttle Tuscan red delivers the goods.
