Classic Bordeaux blend from Tenuta di Trinoro.
Le Cupole is the entry ticket to the iconic Tenuta di Trinoro universe in southern Tuscany, but the word "entry" should be taken with a grain of salt. This is a wine that stands strong on its own in both intensity and complexity, delivering impressive quality for the price year after year.
The wine is composed of four classic Bordeaux grapes: 41% merlot, 39% cabernet franc, 14% cabernet sauvignon, and 6% petit verdot. Compared to 2022, cabernet franc plays a larger role in 2023, almost on par with merlot.
The aroma is intense with dark cherries, blackberries, and plums accompanied by spicy notes, herbs, licorice, and a hint of leather. The taste is full-bodied and juicy with dark, ripe fruit, fine freshness, and silky, well-integrated tannins. There is plenty of intensity, yet a very fine balance and a long, spicy finish.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rewards the vintage with 94+ points, highlighting the wine's dark fruit, velvety fullness, and exceptionally well-handled tannins. James Suckling also gives it 94 points.
Le Cupole 2023 can certainly be enjoyed already, but it also has the structure for several years of aging. It is ideal for braised lamb or game, grilled beef, and mature cheeses—or as a good glass on its own.
The grapes come from Tenuta di Trinoro's high-altitude vineyards in Val d’Orcia at 450-600 meters. The different parcels are harvested and vinified separately, allowing the grapes to be picked precisely when each parcel has reached the desired ripeness.
Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, after which the wine is aged in 1-3 year old barriques and cement.
2023 offered a cool and rainy spring followed by a warm summer and a long ripening period. The harvest stretched from mid-September into October, resulting in an intense and generous vintage with ripe fruit and fine freshness.
An excellent wine for the price!
